Everything You Need To Know

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) dermal fillers are a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fulness to the skin. Dermal fillers help to restore our skin to its former youthful appearance. Dermal Fillers are injected into the skin in areas where it needs to be plumped up again and made to look firmer.

We use 100% hyaluronic acid-based wrinkle filling injections with lidocaine local anaesthetic built-in to enhance comfort during the procedure.

Pre-Treatment Advice

To prevent the risks of bruising from overstretching the skin during treatment, clients should avoid:

Taking Aspirin unless medically prescribed

Alcohol consumption 24 hours before treatment, after and on the day of the treatment

Avoid the use of vitamin E and products containing ginkgo extracts

Aftercare Instructions

Avoid touching the area for at least 6 hours.  Then the area can be gently washed with soap and water.  If the area is tender, apply some ice-covered cloth to the treatment site.

Drink lots of water as dermal filler holds 1000x its own weight in water and this will soften and settle the product

Do not engage in any strenuous exercise straight after the treatment (24 hours recommend)

Avoid the heat (hot baths showers, drinks) along with the sun as this will reduce the persistence of the product.
MASSAGE, MASSAGE, MASSAGE!  The following day begins to massage the area using the technique shown by your practitioner to ensure no lumps form.  If you do find any lumps, massage the area with firm pressure until the lump has softened and disappeared.  Repeat this for up to a week.

Do not apply makeup or lipstick for a minimum of 8 hours – This can risk infection in the injected area.

No sunbeds for 3 days after treatment as this can breakdown the filler

Don’t apply any creams which contain alpha hydroxyl acids

Clients who have had cold sores in the past may experience a flare-up due to trauma to the lip

Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and St Johns wart after the treatment as this thins the blood and increases bruising
Avoid flying for 24 hours

Avoid dental treatment for 24 hours

Cold compresses may be used after the treatment to reduce swelling and decrease soreness.

With cheek enhancement, avoid sleeping on your side as this can flatten the product.  Following your treatment, the next day slightly nip the area to sculpt your cheeks. .

AAny concerns after the treatment, please don’t hesitate in contacting your practitioner where we will be happy to assist you.

Frequently Asked Quedtions

  • What are the different types of Dermal fillers used?
The leading dermal filler used by most UK practitioners is Hyaluronic Acid (HA) dermal fillers which is a natural substance that already exist in the human body which is used to provide volume and fulness to the skin. Dermal fillers are non-permanent, usually lasting 6 - 9 months.
  • What areas can Dermal Fillers treat ?
Lip Augmentation – Size and Volume of Lips. When it comes to your lips, we know that the appearance and desired results are often very important and personal. This is why we provide a consultation prior to beginning the procedure to ensure we tailor the treatment to achieve the desired results. We have many clients who are looking to achieve a natural look with defining the lip and creating a little volume along with other clients who are looking to achieve a fuller look. Hyaluronic acid is injected into the lips in precise areas to create the desired look and achieve the perfect lip ratio. Smokers Lines – Lines extending from the lip or lip stick bleed/smokers’ lines can be treated by enhancing lip definition combined with injecting small amounts of filler into each line. Nasolabial folds (smile lines / nose to mouth lines) – Nasolabial folds are the lines that run down from the nose to the corner of the mouth. Prominent nasolabial folds and cheek lines are usually due to the loss of supporting tissue in the skin. We recommend the use of dermal filler to produce volume under the fold to smooth out their appearance. Marionette Lines – Marionette lines are the lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin. These lines are usually due to the loss of underlying supporting tissue in the skin. We recommend the use of dermal filler to plump out the lines, providing the support that will make them less apparent. Cheek Enhancement – Dermal filler can be used to replace or enhance lost volume in the face. With the use of dermal filler, this can contour and lift the area depending on the results you are looking to achieve.
  • What happens during a Dermal Filler treatment
Dermal Filler treatment procedure – After your consultation and prior to your treatment your skin will be cleaned and anaesthetic applied. We will explain the injection procedure and product choice and confirm the areas to be treated and what we do. These carefully selected non-surgical aesthetic treatments are minimally invasive and will therefore cause you little discomfort. Dermal fillers provide subtle but incremental improvements to the quality, look and feel of your overall feeling of wellbeing over time. Each treatment takes around 15 – 30 minutes. There is no downtime and you can return to work immediately after this procedure. Hyaluronic acid dermal filler is a natural substance which already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. This procedure is completely reversible and our practitioners are fully trained on reversal procedure if this is required.
  • What are the potential Dermal Filler side effects?
Due to the nature of the procedure, the occurrence of swelling/redness and bruising is completely normal and differs from person to person in regards to severity. Tenderness, especially following Lip Augmentation. Noticeable swelling will subside within a few days and your lips along with any unevenness due to the swelling will settle within a week and at the very latest 10-14 days after your treatment. Other types of reactions are very rare, a small number of people have experienced localised reactions thought to be of a hypersensitivity nature. These have usually consisted of swelling at the implant site, sometimes affecting the surrounding tissues. Redness, tenderness and rarely acne-like formations have also been reported.
